A Lesson Learnt

I got an opportunity to help a Visually Impaired (VI) person for his exam preparation. My task was to just read the questions followed by options, and this VI person has to identify the correct ones. Since I know him for the past 4 years, but has never interacted with him in detail. He just guided me to his home once I reached the landmark. He came with his son to receive me. His wife is also visually impaired and they have two children. One goes to playschool and other is one and half-year-old. I was welcomed with a great smile from his wife. The room was so neat and tidy. We immediately started our preparation. Initially, I was asked to mark all the answers in one section so that while reading it becomes easy for me to crosscheck the answers. We started section by section, and he gave almost correct answers for most of the questions. There were few questions which were very lengthy and has to be repeated twice but still, he answered many questions. At times, when he gets some similar answers, he immediately asks me to cross check the same question in another section. I was also getting a good explanation from him at times for few of the questions.

Lunch-time came and I told my friend that I would have lunch from outside but he insisted me to have with him. His wife also requested me to have lunch. We had lunch and I must say that lunch was delicious. I was taken to surprise that how come she had cooked to the perfection.  Being visually impaired, they hosted me so well with lunch and tea. That too inspite of having two small kids, they manage so efficiently without anyone's help. His elder daughter speaks so nicely with proper respect. I was also happy to see her daughter guiding her father at times. I have seen in so many families wherein both husband and wife struggle to take care of their baby and call their parents to come home and stay with them. Here, I could sense a real Heaven in their home. Without having anyone's help, they are living their life to the fullest. We do crib about so many petty things like TV not working, scolding kids every-time and venting out our anger on them, etc, but here is the family to look out for. This one-day volunteering had etched in my memory and I have indeed learned a great lesson on that day.
